Setting up a stag do abroad comes with unique challenges that can overwhelm the organiser if they don't prepare adequately. That's why Infinity Weekends has compiled a handy list of things to remember if you're the designated best man. Read on to ensure you haven't missed anything from this checklist so there will be no nasty surprises before you head to the airport.
Not only should you give yourself time to get everything in order, but you should also give everybody invited ample opportunity to see if they can make the proposed dates work for them by organising holiday time or personal matters so they can be there. Also, flights tend to be cheaper the earlier in advance you look, saving everybody some money.
It's up to you as the organiser to decide where the stag weekend will take place, assuming you get the green light from the stag. There are many options for a fun and unforgettable weekend, like the Costa del Sol, the Algarve, Prague, Amsterdam, Krakow, Dublin, and much more across Europe.
It's much easier to set up a group chat with everybody invited so you can get messages across to everybody rather than sending individual texts. To simplify planning, you can even set up a poll to determine who will be coming and who won't.
Everybody knows that a passport is required to travel to another country, but how often do you check the date of your passport and its validity? Your passport must have at least six months of validity to travel internationally, so make this one of the first points your group should understand. Check the UK travel advice for the country you're visiting to see if any extra requirements are needed, e.g., COVID-19 passes, visas, restricted items, and local demonstrations.
We suggest looking for your hotel before booking your flights because many sites tend to offer free cancellations, so you'll pay nothing if your plans change. Depending on the type of place you're visiting, ensure the hotel is centrally located. Hence, you'll be close to local amenities and tourist hotspots—the last thing you want is to be miles out of town, away from anything of interest!
Flights are typically released by airlines six months in advance, but they can also be released three months, depending on the route; this is where you will usually find the most budget-friendly prices. It would be ideal to book the flights as quickly as possible when they are released so you don't spend too much. Also, we don't expect you to book flights for everybody attending, so once you've booked yours and the stag’s flight, let everybody else in the group chat know your flight number and time/date of departure.
Stay in touch with everybody in the days before departure so you can organise potential taxis to the airport, when and where you will meet in the terminal, and, more importantly, who's getting the first round at the airport bar!
